Don’t let a claim rain on your parade.

Coverage details can vary depending on which company your insurance policy is provided by. Ultimately, that company handles your claim.

To file a claim, call your independent agent for guidance. No worries if you’re not sure who your company is. Just give us a call at 248-236-7004, and we’ll connect you with the right experts from your insurance carrier who can explain how your coverage and deductible may apply. When calling, please have your policy number available.

Automobile Claims

To file a claim, call your independent agent for guidance. From there, your agent can direct you on how to report the claim and give a statement of when, where, and what happened. Have any supporting documentation and police report number if available.

Once you file your claim, we’ll work with your claims adjuster to help you:

  • Have your damage reviewed

  • Get an estimate at a repair shop

  • Schedule your repairs if your vehicle isn’t a total loss

  • Manage your claim online through completion

Investigations & Inspections

First, we need to understand exactly what happened in order to determine the coverage you are entitled to within your policy. We’ll do our best to be speedy, and you can help by providing all of the requested information and possibly even photos.

If an inspection is needed, your carrier will examine your vehicle at your home, workplace, repair shop, or another location to assess the damage. If the damage is extensive you may be looking at a total loss.

Auto Repair Estimates

Before work begins on your car, a repair shop needs to estimate how much it’s going to cost. You can typically choose any certified body shop.

Insurance-Covered Repairs

With an approved estimate in hand, the repair shop of your choice gets to work getting you back on the road. In the process, the shop may find additional damage, which they can bill under your claim number (with approval).

Home Damage Claims

We’re here to help get things back in order as quickly as possible. Here’s what you’ll need to file:

  • What happened?

  • Where is the damaged property?

  • How extensive is the damage?

  • Are temporary repairs needed?

  • If the authorities were contacted, which department responded and what is the report number?

  • Your current contact information and the best time to reach you.

  • A convenient time for a damage assessment, either in person or via video chat.

How – and why – to document your personal belongings

In the event of theft, your claims representative will ask you for a list of missing items, along with any receipts for those items. Photographs, videos, owner’s manuals, serial numbers, and credit card statements are useful to document personal belongings that may have been damaged or stolen.

We recommend keeping a home inventory in a location other than your home, such as with a relative, in a bank-safe deposit box, or online.

Stay Safe

Before filing your home insurance claim, we first want to ensure you’re taking the proper steps to maintain your safety.

Stay out of your home if it has been severely damaged. If your home has been broken into, contact the police immediately to file a report and fix or replace your locks. If there’s been a fire in your home, avoid breathing ashes and soot by covering your nose and mouth with a handkerchief or face mask.

Other steps to prevent further damage include: Board up broken windows and doors. Cover roof damage with tarps or plywood and remove debris. Save all receipts from temporary repairs. If possible, place any damaged items in a safe, secure area where they can be inspected later. Do not attempt to clean fire or smoke-damaged items. Cleaning without the proper equipment can make it worse.

Get In Touch

Please wait until a claims adjustor assesses the damage before starting permanent repairs. We encourage you, however, to schedule permanent repairs as soon as possible. Make sure to find a local, licensed, bonded and insured contractor.

Do you need help with water damage? Ask your claims representative about using one of our Water Mitigation Program Vendors.

Once you’ve filed, your adjuster will continue to work with you to get your life back to normal.

Temporary Housing & Home Improvements

If you are unable to live in your home while the damage is assessed and your home is being repaired or rebuilt, your insurance carrier may help pay for additional living expenses, for up to 24 months. If repairs take longer than the period of time covered in your policy, you may be eligible for additional assistance from federal emergency programs.

Your insurance carrier may replace damaged items and materials with the same type and quality of materials you had before your home was damaged.

If you decide to upgrade your house with better or more expensive materials, you’re welcome to do so, but you’ll need to pay the additional expense out of your own pocket.

Any time you make improvements to your property, be sure to talk to your local independent agent to find out if your coverage is still enough.
